Dosage & administration: |
- As directed by the physician.
- Take Yashither tablets orally with meal.
- Adult Dosage: Take first dose of 4 tablets as a single
initial dose, as soon as possible after malaria is diagnosed. Take
the second dose of 4 tablets after 8 hours after first dose. Take
the third dose of 4 tablets after 24 hours after first dose. Take
the fourth dose of 4 tablets after 36 hours after the first dose.
Take the fifth dose of 4 tablets after 48 hours after the first
dose. Take the sixth dose of 4 tablets after 60h after the first
dose. (Total course of 24 tablets)

Contra-indications: |
- Hypersensitivity to any ingredient of the yashither
- Patients with complicated malaria
- Patients with a family history of sudden death of congenital
prolongation of the Qtc interval on electrocardiograms or with any
other clinical conditions known to prolong the Qt interval
- Patients with disturbances of electrolyte balance e.g.
hypokalemia or hypomagnesemia
- Patients who are taking drug which is metabolizes by the
cytochrome enzyme CYP2D6 (e. g. flecainide, metoprolol, imipramine,
amitryptyline, clomipramine)
- Patients that are known to prolong the Qt interval
These drugs include:
- Antiarrhythmics of class IA and III
- Neuroleptics, antidepressive agents
- Certain antibiotics including some agents of the following
classes: macrolides, fluroquinolones, imidazole and trazole
antifungal agents
- Certain non-sedating antihistamines (terfenadine, astemizole)
- Cisapride

Precautions: |
- Do not take this as a preventive against malaria
- Do not use this to treat malaria that affects the brain
- Pregnancy and lactation
|
Side effects: |
- CNS: Headaches, dizziness and fatigue, sleep disorder
- Cardiovascular system tachycardia
- Muscles and bones: aching muscles and joints
- Alimentary tracts: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach
pain, loss of appetite
- Allergy: skin itch or erythema
- Discontinue the medication and inform your doctor about side
effects when using this medicine.

Interactions: |
- Avoid concomitant administration with antioxidant agents such as
vitamin E, vitamin C, glutathione because of possible diminution of
antimalarial action
- Artemether may potentiate other antimalarial activity
- As grapefruit juice inhibits the metabolism of some drugs via the
CYP3A4 cytochrome enzyme. It is advisable not to drink grapefruit
juice while taking yashither.
